May All Your Christmas Hygiene Dreams Come True
The holiday season is officially in full swing and I’m excited to say that Christmas is just around the corner. The Holiday season tends to be our kids favorite time of year for all the wrong reasons; with parties, pies, coco, candy and late nights on the calendar, Christmas hygiene is the last thing on their minds. Christmas should be fun for the whole family, there is no reason to expect the fun to end in pain, so here are some ways to keep the Christmas spirit without the cavities.
Brushing Away the Bad…
At first glance it looks like you are on the brink of 2 weeks of uninterrupted entertaining… The kids are out of school for a while and every day you will have to find activities to keep them busy and food to keep them alive, all while keeping your home at presentation quality for holiday visitors. Yep, you’ve got a lot on your plate, but on the bright side, you don’t have the mad morning rush to get the kids up, dressed, fed and teeth brushed before the mad dash to school.
You have the perfect opportunity to help your kids take time brushing their teeth that they really need. Young kids especially need help and constant tutoring with their toothbrush to build a healthy routine and understand the importance of brushing. Vacations are the few times that you and your kids will have the time in the mornings and evenings to practice together and lead by example, make the most of it!
Preventative Measures
Christmas parties, how many can you fit into a month? If you have less than one a week your kids probably feel deprived. I know that many of you have large family parties, dinners and get together where everyone brings their best, one off culinary masterpiece. Others get together for baking days where sweets, breads and pies are mass produced as gifts and party fodder. Inevitably, your family is looking at a lot of rich leftovers. Your kids will be thrilled, but it does make it that much more important to brush and floss at least twice a day.
On the other hand, no one actually needs pumpkin pie with whipped cream and chocolate shavings and a mug of hot chocolate with breakfast lunch and dinner, do they? If you know that there will a rich dinner it would do your kids a world of good to have a healthy breakfast and lunch, their little engines don’t run well on sugar alone.
Stocking Stuffers
All sorts of fun things can fit into the toe of an oversized sock, and should right? I recommend treats that come with their own shell, I’m talking nuts, not M&M’s. Bringing back an old seasonal tradition can be a lot of fun, break out the nutcracker and show them what it’s for!
Look at that, just enough room in there for a new superhero or princess themed electric toothbrush, right there, next to the floss sticks. Your kids are so lucky! Honestly, it’s probably time for a new toothbrush, and studies have shown that kids are more likely to use a fun toothbrush than a boring one, so dress it up and squeeze it in between yo-yo and hack-y-sack, (are my years showing?).
The Holiday season is an incredible time for the family to get closer and we at Dental Innovations hope that yours is as happy and stress free as is humanly possible. We wish you a holiday season full of fond memories and free of dental regrets.
